Pop Warner Spirit teams have participated for several decades on the football sidelines (Pep Squads, Majorettes, etc.); however, cheerleading was not officially introduced until the 1970’s.
Today, thousands of youth participate in Pop Warner Cheerleading and Dance teams around the United States.
The Cheer and Dance Program offers teams a wide range of opportunity for young athletes at all skill levels: Novice, Intermediate and Advanced.
Pop Warner has established one set of spirit rules along with JAMZ, the Pop Warner Education Development Partner and the original developer of the Youth Cheer and Dance Alliance (YCADA).
Together with YCADA, Pop Warner is able to provide online educational courses for its coaches, administrators and judges on team skill levels for Cheer Teams (PW 1, 2, 3 & 4) and for Dance Teams (Pom Performance & Theme Dance).
With continued education, the Pop Warner Coaching Staff provides basic instruction, training and conditioning for both football games and competition.
Teams participate on the sidelines at football games for home and most away games through to the Pop Warner Super Bowl. In addition to Game Day, teams participate in qualifying spirit events (League and Region) through to a Pop Warner National Championship.
Big Bend Pop Warner (BBPW) offers a competitive cheer program that is gaining recognition throughout the Tallahassee community and the Southeast Region. Since 2006, BBPW cheer squads have advanced to regional and national levels in their respective competitive divisions. Spirit squads participate in the local Big Bend Pop Warner Cheer Competition and Exhibition mid-season.
The Tiny Mite, Mitey Mite, Junior Pee-wee and Pee-wee spirit squads are considered competitive squads. The top three teams from the local BBPW competition advance to the Southeast Region Cheer and Dance Championships Thanksgiving Day weekend in Orlando, Fl. Only the top two teams from the Southeast Region Championships are permitted to compete at the National Pop Warner Cheer and Dance Championships at Walt Disney World.
Big Bend Pop Warner spirit squads also have the opportunity to participate in local events, including parades and festivals. Please contact your Association Cheer and Dance Commissioner for more details.
Dance
Big Bend Pop Warner is looking to start competitive dance squads in their respective divisions. There are no auditions and dance squads have the same opportunities as cheer to compete at the local, regional, and national levels. The dance squads also have an opportunity to perform in the local community.
